Biography

Soha S.M. Mostafa has completed her PhD at the age of 39 years from Cairo University and postdoctoral studies from Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (Spain). She is Professor of Microbiology, Department of Microbiology, Soils, Water and Environment Research Institute (SWERI), Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Egypt. She is a phycologist, with over 25 year’s research experience in the area of applied phycology: phycoremediation of agroindustrial effluents and domestic wastewater into biodiesel and biofertilizers production; wastewater treatment, seawater desalination and production of phytohormones, pigments, antioxidant, anticancer and other bioactive compounds from algae. She established more than one research Laboratory for research on algae at the Soil, Water, and Environment Research Institute (SWERI) of the Agricultural Research Centre (ARC), of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. Other than the SWERI team, she has researchers and collaborators from other disciplines working with her. She has also established and operates field prototypes for algal production systems in the experimental fields of the ARC. She has published more than 35 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute. Regarded as an authority on the subject, European publishers have commissioned her twice for writing on the subject (one published and three under preparation). Through her publications and participation in conferences and workshops in the Euro-Mediterranean and Arab regions she maintains active sharing of knowledge with colleagues in other countries.
